Astronomy Day - On Saturday, telescope demonstrations await those interested throughout the country
Saturday will be Astronomy Day, on this occasion people interested in astronomy will be welcomed with sidewalk astronomy demonstrations and educational programs across the country.
Astronomy Day has been held in Hungary for more than two decades, and every year thousands of interested people can take a look at telescopes at the public presentations. The aim of the series of events is to bring the science of astronomy as close as possible to people.
According to information on the website of the Hungarian Astronomical Association (MCSE), this year, programs will be held at more than twenty locations across the country on this occasion.
In several settlements, such as Ajká, Zalaegerszeg, Baján and Gyöngyös, those interested in astronomy are already waiting for demonstrations and lectures on Fridays.
In addition to sidewalk astronomy demonstrations, programs are also held in observatories.
On Saturday, among others, there will be astronomy shows in Szeged, Budapest, Esztergom, Várpalot, Dorog, Szombathely, Balatonfűzfő, Bicske and Miskolc.
This Saturday evening, the Moon is almost visible as a crescent (the first quarter will be on May 12), Venus in the early evening after sunset, and Jupiter and its moon system in the late evening will be the main attraction of the evening. Those who persevere will be able to enjoy other sights of the spring sky, such as double stars and galaxies.
Astronomy Day is a "moving holiday" that aligns with the phase of the moon each year, falling on the Saturday closest to the first quarter between mid-April and mid-May.
