Thermal would provide background support for the Red Bull Air Race With
The city of Hévíz and the Hévíz-Balaton Airport in Sármellék, which it operates, would provide support for the organization of the Red Bull Air Race as a background base, if the organizers would bring the event to the western Balaton region, the mayor of Hévíz informed MTI on Monday.
Gábor Papp (Fidesz-KDNP) wrote in his announcement: he was pleased that Keszthely and the western Balaton region could be the venue for the world championship flying competition. He is convinced that "Hévíz and its region, as one of the most successful tourist areas in Hungary, and the city as the operator of the international airport Hévíz-Balaton Airport, are suitable to provide support as a background base for the organization of this large-scale event".
The city manager added that he believes that "in terms of its infrastructure and preparation, Balaton is both suitable and capable of carrying out the event".
The Office of the Mayor of Budapest announced in a statement last week that Mayor István Tarlós informed the organizers of the flying competition: due to insufficient conditions for the event, the capital cannot issue permits for the event planned for July. As an alternative, the mayor suggested to the organizers the area around the Danube Bend or one of the larger lakes in Hungary.
The deputy mayor of Keszthely, Bálint Nagy (Fidesz-KDNP), then published on his social media page: the organizer of the flying world championship competition wrote a letter to the management of Hungaroring Sport Zrt., suggesting that the western basin of Balaton be examined as a possible location. The hotel capacity of Keszthely, Sármellék airport and Hévíz may even make the area suitable for organizing the event, Bálint Nagy indicated.
He said that on Friday he also consulted with the president and CEO of the company organizing the competition on the phone, with whom he agreed to examine the possible locations. After the professional decision, impact studies must also be carried out, after which we can only talk about the details - wrote the deputy mayor of Keszthely.
