January, 5 percent more tourists arrived in the Romanian public accommodation
Bucharest, Friday, March 1, 2019 (MTI) - In January, 758,400 tourists came to the Romanian trade fair, 5 percent more accommodationplaces compared to the first month of last year, but at the same time the number of foreign tourists decreased, the Romanian national statistical institute announced on Friday.
The number of guest nights spent by tourists increased by 8.2 percent to 1.472 million. The ratio of Romanian and foreign tourists is unchanged, 80 percent of those visiting commercial accommodation are Romanian citizens, 20 percent are foreigners.
At the same time, in the first month of this year, the number of foreign tourists decreased by 6.2 percent, to 139,800, compared to the 149,000 registered in the first month of last year. The number of guest nights spent by foreigners also decreased by 4.7 percent, to 284,800, while Romanian tourists spent 11.8 percent more, 1.188 million guest nights.
Last year, the number of guest nights increased by 5.7 percent to 28.449 million in the Romanian commercial accommodationhere. The number of guests increased by 6.3 percent to 12.809 million, of which Romanians accounted for more than 10 million. Last year's growth was also ensured by domestic tourists, and this trend is expected to continue this year as well.
