Verdi Rigolettóját can hear the audience on the second day of the VeszprémFest
The audience can hear Verdi's Rigoletto conducted by conductor Ádám Medveczky on the second day of this year's VeszprémFest, the director of the festival announced on Friday in Budapest.
Zoltán Mészáros recalled: in the first ten years of the festival, there was always an opera performance, and after a four-year hiatus, a very successful opera gala was held again last year on the main stage. The concert version of Rigoletto was a great success at VeszprémFest 14 years ago, he added.
Co-production program director Tamás Bátor said that one of the greatest Rigolettos of recent decades, the Italian baritone Paolo Gavanelli, will play the title role, and the audience can also hear the coloratura soprano Zuzana Markova of Czech origin living in Italy and the American tenor René Barbera.
Szilveszter Ókovács, the general director of the Hungarian State Opera House, highlighted: the company of the opera house performs regularly in Veszprém and Balatonfüred.
At the press conference, conductor Ádám Medveczky called Rigoletto a perfect opera with songs that have become hits.
Gyula Porga, the mayor of Veszprém, emphasized that VeszprémFest has been proving for 16 years that even a medium-sized Hungarian city is capable of organizing a world-class event.
It was already announced that on the first day of the festival, which will be held between July 10 and 13, the Dutch Caro Emerald, the 40-year-old UB40 founding members Ali Campbell and Astro on the third day, and the Georgian-born Katie Melua on the final day.
