A record number of entrants in the XVIII. At the National Syngenta Wine Competition

Siófok, Wednesday, March 6, 2019 (MTI) - More than ever, 559 entries were received for the XVIII. For the National Syngenta Wine Competition, where the best SynVino awards were received by the Bárdos és Fia Winery in Mátra, the Béres Vineyard in Tokaj, the Koch Csaba Vin Art Winery in Villány and the NAIK Viticulture and Wine Research Institute in Badacsony at the award ceremony in Siófok on Wednesday evening.

331 white and 63 red wines, 73 rosés, 2 sillers and 3 champagnes from the country's 21 wine regions were nominated for this year's competition - explained Beáta Vajda, marketing manager of Syngenta, which produces and distributes plant protection agents and seeds.
Zoltán Varga, the company's campaign manager, said that it had been more than a hundred years since there was a vintage when only 30 days passed between the vines budding and flowering. "The results show that the majority of plant protection specialists took the obstacle well, as 3.5 million hectoliters of wine were made from the 500,000 tons of grapes harvested from 65,000 hectares last year," said the specialist.
Last year, 450,000 tons of grapes were harvested from 53,000 hectares, from which 3 million hectoliters of wine were made.
Last year's record harvest was a good vintage not only in terms of quantity, but also in quality, said associate professor Diána Nytrainé Sárdy, head of the Department of Oenology at Szent István University and president of the jury. The grape and wine sector has undergone a clear development in recent years, which can be clearly measured in this year's wine competition, he added.
The SynVino award for the best wines was awarded to the 2018 Pinot Noir-Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé of Bárdos és Fia Winery, the 2016 6-putton Béres Tokaji Aszú of Béres Vzőlőbirtok és Pincészét, the 2012 Cuvée of Villányi Csanád of Koch Csaba Vin Art Winery , as well as the 2016 grey-friendly wine of the NAIK Viticulture and Wine Research Institute in Badacsony.
Two Tokaj wineries were awarded the Grand Gold award: Grand Tokaj's 5-puttony Grand Tokaj Aszúja 2013 and Tolcsva-Bor-Sajgó Pincészet's 2014 Tokaj 5-puttony Aszúja. In addition, 116 gold, 302 silver and 118 bronze awards were awarded to the entrants.
The wines of the 2018 vintage performed well at the competition, one was among the best, and 48 received gold medals. The oldest vintage wine of the competition, the 2000 6-puttony aszu of the Csubák Family Winery in Tokaj, also won a gold medal.
