The number of bicycle ticket and pass sales increased by 13.4 percent in one year, more than 545,000 bicycles were transported on trains in 2018, MÁV-Start told MTI on Tuesday. According to the data of the railway company, most bike riders travel between Győr and Mosonmagyaróvár, between Budapest and the stations along Lake Velence, and between Siófok. Szobi and the intermediate stations of Vác, Dunakesz and Löszgöd are also popular destinations towards the Danube Bend. Bicycle tickets are often exchanged for the Budapest-Szeged, as well as the Kecskemét-Kiskunfélegyháza and Szeged-Kiskunfélegyháza sections on the Alföld.The MÁV group prioritizes the continuous improvement of the bicycle transport service, thousands of covered, camera-guarded B+R car parks already welcome those traveling by train.
In addition, many innovations were introduced: two years ago, bicycle tickets and bicycle tour tickets can be purchased as e-train tickets, and can even be presented to ticket examiners on a smartphone or tablet. E-train tickets can be redeemed 10 percent cheaper, this also applies to tickets redeemed online for bicycles, they wrote.
The railway company also offers cyclists additional reasonably priced tickets: with a bicycle tour ticket, a bicycle can be transported from any part of the country to Lake Balaton, Lake Fertő and Lake Tisza for HUF 420, regardless of the distance traveled. In this way, you can not only get to the lakes, but also when traveling between the stations and stops around them, you don't have to buy another bicycle ticket that day. Commuters with a railway or Budapest pass should exchange for a monthly bicycle pass. People traveling with a monthly, semi-monthly or 30-day railway pass can travel together with their bicycle on weekends by redeeming a free bicycle ticket, according to the conditions indicated on the pass, they said.
The bicycle transport capacity has also been increased: bicycle transport is provided on all suburban railway lines in Budapest. It is the busiest from the first quarter of 2020 
On the Budapest-Vác-Szob and Budapest-Cegléd-Szolnok lines, double-decker motor trains will be in service, and they will accommodate even more bicycles. These vehicles also appear along Lake Velence on weekends, and on the southern shore of Lake Balaton in summer.
With the renovation of high-speed train cars last fall, 20 more passenger cars with a front area suitable for transporting bicycles were put into service (3 bicycles can be transported per car), and the 10 IC+ cars are already in trial operation, and they can transport 8 bicycles. MÁV-Start also plans to use IC+ cars in Balaton traffic, they announced.
