At the press conference of the competition on Tuesday, it was announced that after the opening, the first stage will take place between Venice and Esztergom, and then the distance between Balassagyarmat and Miskolc awaits the competitors. After that, two halves will be organized: from Kazincbarcika to Tiszafüred, and from there to Hajdúszoboszlo, before the king's stage, which starts from Karcag and ends at Kékestető. The final stage on Sunday is organized between Kecskemét and Székesfehérvár.
Károly Eisenkrammer, the chairman of the organizing committee, said that in addition to the national team, two Hungarian teams and the Pannon Cycling Team will be in the Tour de Hongrie field of 140 people. He explained that M4 Sport will be broadcasting live for two hours a day, as well as a one-hour recap every night on Eurosport, which will be showing the race live on the last two days. He emphasized that according to the three-year agreement signed with the Amaury Sport Organization (ASO), which organizes the Tour de France, and Eurosport, spectators will definitely be able to follow the Hungarian circuit until 2021.
"When we live in historical times, sometimes we don't even realize that we are in the middle of them. We are now in the middle of a change of era in domestic cycling," said Máriusz Révész, the government commissioner responsible for active Hungary. He recalled that the unified Hungarian Cycling Association was founded in 2014, and then the following year the Hungarian circuit was restarted, which by last year had already grown into a first-class competition featuring a stronger field than ever before.
Tünde Szabó, the state secretary responsible for sports, emphasized: it is great to see that the Tour de Hongrie has reached a new level and entered a new dimension.
"Following the example of the biggest circuit races, we present the route in dignified conditions. Today's gala also shows that the Tour de Hongrie has come to its rightful place," he stated at the press event held in the Budapest Music Center, where the heroes of the contest's history were also greeted.
He explained that the Hungarian Circuit Competition, first organized in 1925, is not only one of the biggest competitions in Hungary, but also a prominent event throughout Europe.
"Without the Tour de Hongrie, not only the Hungarian but also the international competition calendar is unthinkable. Through our own circuit competition, we can show Hungary to Europe and present ourselves to the world." he said.
Praising the competitors, he said that through their example, the spectators and fans can learn purposefulness, humility, extraordinary discipline, endurance and fighting spirit.
Four pro-continental teams have already announced their participation in the Tour de Hongrie, starting on June 11, with a total distance of 890 kilometers: the French Cofidis, the Italian Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec, the Israeli Israel Cycling Academy and the Italian Neri Sottoli-Selle Italia-KTM. The field of the category 2.1 international competition will finish on June 16.
