Tourist agency: experiencing the golden age of Hungarian tourism
Hungarian tourism is experiencing its golden age, and never has so much support been available to the sector as now, said Zoltán Guller, CEO of the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ), at the Tourism Summit 2019 conference on Monday in Budapest. In his welcome speech, he explained that last year more than one and a half times as many tourists arrived in Hungary as there are inhabitants of the country, the increase in the income of accommodation exceeded the world average, the number of foreign tourists increased to twice the European Union average, the occupancy rate of domestic four- and five-star hotels is almost 80 percent .
The general manager emphasized: from July 1, Hungary entered the ranks of the countries that manage their tourism effectively, at the forefront of the world.
They can see what is happening in the sector, and even what will happen, not only afterwards, but immediately, Zoltán Guller pointed out, speaking about the National Tourist Information Center.
Globally, 14 million people book accommodation on the Internet every day, 100,000 planes and 80,000 tourist ships leave the world every day. It is no longer possible to make a decision about tourism based on the retrospective analysis of statistical data, he explained.
The CEO pointed out: effective corporate governance not only records past events, but also plans, operates, controls, and intervenes if necessary.
Zoltán Guller said about further plans: MTÜ will continue its developments and increasingly modern marketing activities.
He mentioned, among other things, that they will start designing and manufacturing the new Danube and Balaton ships, next summer they will organize the most beautiful fireworks display in Europe, and in the fall they will open the Hungarian pavilion at the World Expo in Dubai. Hungarian fashion and festivals are supported, Badacsony and Héviz are significantly developed, and new tourist areas will receive support, he indicated.
According to calculations, Hungary will reach 50 million guest nights by 2022, and tourism will contribute 16 percent to the GDP, emphasized the CEO of MTÜ.
He added: from now on, the most important goal will no longer be the continuous increase of performance, but the improvement of the quality of life of the workers in the sector and the local residents through tourism. At the event, the Sándor Körösi Csoma awards, which replaced the previous Pro Turismo award, were presented, with which the activities of outstanding tourism professionals are recognized. The awards were presented by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Zoltán Guller, CEO of the tourism agency.
