Good news for cyclists :-) Cycling tourism in Balaton is being developed with HUF 1.2 billion

On Friday in Balatonfüred, 13 professional organizations signed a cooperation agreement on the implementation of the HUF 1.2 billion project won for the development of cycling services in Balaton.

Péter Princzinger, the president of the Hungarian Cycling Association, said that a third of the funds will be used to designate 600 kilometers of new bicycle routes in addition to the 206-kilometer Balaton bike circle, involving in the "circulation" the background settlements, the Balaton highlands, the Little Balaton, and the southern also the Balaton region. With approximately the same amount, three priority service centers will be established in Balatonfüred, Keszthely and Balatonföldvár, where it will be possible to request loans, information, technical assistance, bicycle transport or tour guides, among other things. The remaining one-third is intended to be used for marketing, website and other advertising activities that present Lake Balaton as a cycling paradise.
The development must be implemented in the next 22 months.
István Bóka (Fidesz-KDNP), the mayor of Balatonfüred, said that the demand for active tourism is rising sharply, so there is great imagination in the development of cycling tourism. He particularly welcomed the fact that the project aims to create a unified tourism package in the resort region, which otherwise belongs to three counties. Tamás Fekete, the vice-president of the Balaton Tourism Association, highlighted that the development of cycling, which is popular both in the spring and autumn seasons, serves well the purpose for which the Open Balaton program series was launched 5 years ago, so that the holiday region can become an attraction center not only in summer, but all year round.
The consortium formed by the Hungarian Cycling Association, the Hungarian Tourism Agency Zrt., the Kisfaludy 2030 Turistzki Fejlsztő Zrt. and the Hungarian Tourist Association Foundation implements the project in accordance with the decision of the Managing Authority of the Economic Development and Innovation Operational Program (GINOP) at the end of 2018. The local governments, forestry, road management, shipping company, railway, national park, non-governmental organization, tourism and hospitality association are among those who are working together for success.
